FAQ
Questions, answered properly.
Including the ones that make us look worse. You'll find out anyway.
Before you install
Do I need Shopify Plus?
No. Shopify B2B is included on Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus. Plus lets you assign catalogs directly to individual companies and gives you unlimited catalogs; on the other plans you assign up to three catalogs through B2B markets. The ordering page works the same on every plan. Full requirements.
Will this change anything for my retail customers?
No. The ordering page is a separate page only signed-in wholesale buyers can use, and retail shoppers continue to see your store exactly as it is. Once the shipping rules are on, they also stop seeing any wholesale shipping rates, which is usually an improvement.
Do I have to tag customers?
No, and that's deliberate. The app knows a wholesale buyer from the company on their cart, which is Shopify's own record. Tag-based wholesale apps break the day someone forgets to tag a new contact.
Where do wholesale prices come from?
From the catalog you assign to a company location in Shopify. The app has no prices of its own, stores none, and can't get out of sync. If a buyer sees the wrong price, it's a catalog assignment, and the setup checklist will say so.
Can different customers have different pricing?
Yes, within what your plan allows: on Plus, a catalog per company or location; on other plans, up to three catalogs assigned through B2B markets. Volume price breaks and per-product fixed prices work on every plan.
Does it work with my theme?
Any Online Store 2.0 theme, which is any free Shopify theme and nearly every paid theme from the last few years. The page picks up your fonts and colours automatically.
Can buyers still use my normal product pages?
Yes. They're signed in, so they see their prices everywhere on your store. The ordering page is the fast lane, not a cage.
Using it
How long does setup take?
About two hours the first time if you're starting from nothing, including Shopify's own B2B setup. If your companies and catalogs already exist, about twenty minutes. The setup guide covers both.
Do my buyers need a password?
No. Shopify emails them a six-digit code. There's no password to reset, which removes the most common wholesale support request there is.
What if a buyer orders below my minimum?
They can't. Minimums and case sizes come from Shopify's quantity rules and are enforced as they type, with a short note explaining why the number changed.
Can buyers order for more than one location?
Yes. If a contact is attached to several company locations, Shopify asks which one they're buying for, and pricing, terms and addresses follow that choice.
Does it handle net terms and PO numbers?
Those are Shopify B2B features and work as normal. The app adds an order note field on the ordering page, which many stores use for PO numbers.
What about taxes and exemptions?
Shopify handles them per company location, including tax IDs and exemptions. Nothing in the app changes how tax is calculated.
Awkward questions
What happens if I uninstall?
The ordering page stops working and the checkout rules stop applying. Your wholesale shipping rates stay behind, and every retail shopper would then see them. Use Remove wholesale rates in the app's Shipping tab before uninstalling; it's one button, and the app reminds you.
What if your app goes down?
Your storefront is Shopify, not us: your store, checkout and existing orders are unaffected. The ordering page is built into your theme, so it keeps rendering; only the parts that talk to our server, which is the admin setup screen, would wait.
Who built this, and will it still be here next year?
Superfine Designs, a small studio. It was built for a working wholesale business first and then turned into an app, which is why it's shaped around real orders rather than a feature list. You'll get replies from the person who wrote it.
Is it really only $34.95?
Yes, with no order limits or per-buyer fees. Pricing.
What don't you do?
We don't do quotes and negotiated pricing workflows, custom registration forms, or net-terms credit checks. We don't run your pricing; Shopify does. If you need a quote-to-order workflow, we're not the right app.
