Selling wholesale
What Faire costs a brand, and what it doesn't cover.
We sell wholesale ourselves, and we sell on Faire. This is not an argument for leaving it. It is the arithmetic written down, from Faire's own pages, plus the part of wholesale that no marketplace does for you.
Faire's fees, from Faire
These are the figures for brands based in North America, taken from Faire's own help centre and brand terms.
| Order | Commission | Other |
|---|---|---|
| Faire Direct a retailer you brought to Faire yourself |
0% | Payment processing |
| Marketplace, first order a retailer who found you on Faire |
15% | $10 new customer fee, once |
| Marketplace, every reorder after that | 15% | Payment processing |
Payment processing depends on how quickly you want paying, and applies to Faire Direct orders as well:
| Payout speed | Processing fee |
|---|---|
| Next day | 3.5% + 30¢ |
| 30 days | 2.4% + 30¢ |
| 60 days | 1.9% + 30¢ |
Sources: Faire's help article "How much does it cost to sell on Faire if I'm based in North America?", its Faire Direct commission policy, and its brand terms of service, effective 15 September 2026. Checked 20 October 2026. Outside North America the structure differs and Faire's own article on it looks out of date, so check your brand portal rather than this page. Faire changes its pricing — it dropped the opening-order rate from 25% to 15% and added the $10 fee — so re-check before making a decision on our say-so.
Where Faire genuinely earns its cut
Worth saying plainly, because a page like this is usually written by someone with something to sell. We have something to sell. Faire is still good at things we do not do at all:
- Finding you shops you would never have met. That is the whole product, and 15% of an order you would not otherwise have had is not expensive.
- Carrying the credit risk. Faire offers retailers 60-day terms and pays you. If you offer terms on your own store, the risk is yours.
- Being trusted by the buyer. A shop that has never heard of you will order from Faire before it will put its card into your website.
If most of your wholesale arrives from shops that found you on the marketplace, Faire is doing its job and the commission is the price of it.
The part that adds up
The 15% on marketplace orders is not only on the first order. Faire's own wording is that future reorders stay at the standard 15% rate. So a shop that discovered you three years ago and has reordered the same twelve items every month since is still charged at 15%, for a discovery that happened once.
Whether that is worth it is your call and depends on what the relationship is worth to you. We are not going to tell you to move those customers: Faire's brand terms govern retailers it introduced to you, and we are not your lawyer.
But the stockists you already had were never Faire's
This is the part we care about, and the honest version of it is not about money at all.
Most brands that sell wholesale have two sets of customers. There are the shops the marketplace found. And there are the shops that came from a trade show, a sales rep, a stockist who told a friend, or someone who walked in carrying your product. For a lot of brands the second group is the bigger one, and it is almost always the older one.
Those shops reorder. Often the same things, on a rhythm. And in most businesses we have seen, including our own, they do it by emailing a list, or filling in a PDF, or texting a photo of last month's invoice.
Here is the bit we will not pretend about: you can put those customers on a Faire Direct link and pay 0% commission. On fees alone, that is cheaper than our app. If the only thing you care about is the percentage, use Faire Direct and stop reading.
What you do not get is everything else:
- The order arrives in your store, not someone else's. Same inventory, same products, same prices, same order list as your retail. One place to look.
- No second catalog to maintain. If you have ever updated a price in two systems and got it wrong in one of them, you know what this is worth.
- Your buyer is on your site, not in an app that sells them your competitors. A marketplace's job is to show a retailer everything. That includes the brand next to you.
- The terms cannot be changed on you. Faire's rate went from 25% to 15% plus a fee. It moved in brands' favour that time.
And the cost is flat. $34.95 a month, whether those shops order $500 or $50,000.
So, honestly
| If you want to… | Use |
|---|---|
| Be found by shops that have never heard of you | Faire marketplace |
| Let a shop you already know order at 0% commission, on Faire | Faire Direct |
| Let the shops you already know reorder on your own store, in one place, for a flat fee | This app |
Plenty of brands will want the first and the third. That is a perfectly sensible way to run it, and it is how we run ours.
